God

If you are not actually conscious, of course you will not believe in God. But if you are conscious (you really know that you exist) then you will automatically realize that you are in the presence of something completely outside your league. The words something and someone are hopelessly inadequate but if you are conscious you will know what I mean.

The discovery of the mechanism of evolution, or the quasi-electrical circuitry of the brain, has absolutely nothing to do with this question.

Hi John,

I'm interested in knowing how one becomes aware that "you are in the presence of something completely outside your league." You quote the Bible quite extensively - is the knowledge of God related to Scripture? If so, how?

Thanks!
Nathan

We are created and sustained by something completely outside our league. It all comes out of nothing, like suddenly having the television turned on. And how do we stay here? How are we held in existence? The zombie reply to the child's question: 'Where did I come from?' is an account of the human life cycle - it misses the point of the question entirely. How did the light get turned on? How does it stay on? The proper answer to the child's question is 'I've no idea. That's completely out of my league!' I don't need to give you biblical quotes to back this up, Nathan. You know them already.
